MULTI-SECTOR EXTRACTIVES TRAINING IN NAIROBI, KENYA

INDEPENDENT SP SUPPORTS CORDAID DELIVER EXTRACTIVES TRAINING TO GOVERNMENTS, CSOS, AND INDUSTRY REPRESENTATIVES FROM SOUTH SUDAN, KENYA, AND UGANDA

To increase awareness on key national and international frameworks related to oil, gas and mining (OGM) and increase the knowledge of participants on key relevant thematic areas related to OGM, from the 26th to 29th of May 2014, over 30 representatives from government, civil society and community based organizations and oil companies from across South Sudan, Northern Kenya, and Uganda participated in an intensive 4 day workshop led by Cordaid’s Extractives team and Independent Social Performance Director and Cordaid Associate Jordon Kuschminder.

The core thematic areas discussed in the workshop included: community engagement, grievance mechanisms, social performance and International Finance Corporation standards, the United Nations Guiding Principles on business and human rights, gender, conflict and extractives, lobby and advocacy, and revenue transparency and accountability.
